K4 Active Defense, LLC has a unique story that started back in 2016 when a group of specialized professionals came together with a focus on providing specialized technical education and advanced technology services to the Defense Space Community.
Their RedSpace division specializes in creating complex and realistic adversary models to generate highly representative opposition force environments and scenarios. This enables space operators of varying experience levels to generate time-based, multi-regime combat response options and defense plans at the unclassified level.
In 2018, K4 designed a comprehensive multi-regime space campaign plan set in the future for the Defense Advanced Research Program Agency's (DARPA) Hallmark program. The RedSpace Campaign Plan (RCP) 2029 provided DARPA with scenario threats that were crucial in fine-tuning its assessment of Hallmark software capabilities and tactics.
K4's team of experienced mentors, software developers, and weapons experts allowed DARPA to stress test Hallmark's IT testbeds in managing large volumes of complex and multi-source data generated by the RCP. The threat-driven scenario enabled software developers to fight their tools against real-world representative data to improve usability in areas such as space domain awareness, indications and warnings, and course of action development.
Their efforts in the Hallmark program led to integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies into streamlined web-based crossed reality (XR) graphical user interfaces that enable space warfighters to attack and defend in the space domain. The RedSpace team's support of the program's primary objectives demonstrated the effectiveness of XR systems for use by space educators, trainers, planners, and operators to communicate complex multi-dimensional information faster and more accurately than adversaries.
